Renovation
Residence - Middleburg, VA

Project: Renovation/1500 square feet and Additions/890 square feet

For a 1970's ersatz Tudor turned Virginia farmhouse, redefinition of the first floor spaces was required to provide functional and aesthetic balance.

During the renovation process the original dreary kitchen and dining room spaces were combined to create an ample space for casual entertaining, the former living room was converted to a formal dining room with an opening to the newly created foyer and a former den became a Library/TV area. Walls were removed to open the spaces and provide ease of traffic flow, a powder room and laundry room were relocated and windows or French doors were added to provide improved natural light. Throughout the house warm hues have been used extensively to create a cheerful ambiance.

The additions included an ample foyer with storage space and new powder room; living/great room with porch; and a build-out in the kitchen (over a non-functional exterior basement stairwell) became a charming sitting area with built-in bookcases.

Architect: Living Room and Foyer addition - John LaMonica, AIA, Marshall, VA.
